What a cookie is here

A small file this site asks your browser to keep. We use as few as the site can work with, and we ask before setting any that are not strictly necessary.

What is set

• `dh_consent` — remembers what you chose on the cookie notice, so it is not asked again. Set only once you answer. Twelve months.
• `sv_tok` — keeps you signed in. It is HttpOnly, so no script on the page can read it. Thirty days, or until you sign out.
• `sv_in` — a single bit beside it saying a session exists, so the page knows whether to show your account without asking the server on every page load. It carries no identity. Thirty days.
• `sv_tok_…` in your browser's local storage — the same sign-in, kept by the page itself so it can show your account straight away. Removed when you sign out.
• Preferences in your browser's local storage, such as light or dark mode — so the site remembers them. They contain nothing about you and never leave your device.
• Visit statistics — counted only if you choose "Accept all" on the notice. They set no cookie of their own and carry no identifier, so they cannot follow you. Nothing is sold on.
• Google Analytics cookies (`_ga` and `_ga_…`) — set by Google only if you choose "Accept all", and only in a web browser, never inside the app, to count visits for the site owner. Up to two years.

Your choice

Optional cookies are set only after you choose "Accept all", and nothing stops working if you choose "Only essential". You can change your mind at any time, as easily as you chose: Open this site with ?cookie-settings at the end of the address (for example https://breakandcode.com/?cookie-settings) and the notice comes back with your earlier choice forgotten and this site's own Google cookies removed (cookies Google keeps on its own domains are managed in your Google account and browser).

Inside the app there is no cookie notice, because the optional cookies are switched off there.

Cookies we do not set

No advertising cookies other than the Google cookies above, and those only with your consent. No cross-site tracking by us, no profiling, and nothing sold or shared for anyone else's marketing.

Managing them yourself

Every browser can show, block and delete cookies in its settings. Blocking the necessary ones will stop you staying signed in.
